When getting a new roof, many homeowners wonder what they need to do to prepare for the installation. Thomas Roofing & Restoration will do everything we can to make the process as seamless and convenient for you as possible, however, there are a couple of quick things you can do to ensure everything goes smoothly.
First, if you have any particular areas of concern, be sure to point them out to us so that we can pay extra attention to that area. While we are always careful with landscaping and lawn furniture, it’s a good idea to go ahead and move anything before we arrive that you are most worried about or advise us before we begin so that we can take extra precautions.
Another thing you can do to prevent accidents is to remove any valuable paintings or fragile items from the walls or shelves in your home. Of course, this is not a must, because there is rarely a problem, but we’ve seen houses that weren’t properly braced have issues with things falling off the walls. As the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
The whole process typically runs very smoothly, and most jobs only last one to two days. Upon arrival, the first thing we will do is move any furniture and lay down tarps to catch nails and trash. Next we will remove the old roof and fix any bad decking that was underneath it. In the event that we run into damaged or rotten decking, we may need temporary access to electricity in order to repair the problem areas.
Once the old roof is removed, we will install a new underlayment, fix or install new flashing, and then install the new roof. Thomas Roofing will always complete a thorough cleanup before leaving your home.
